Nottingham Rowing Club plays host to one of the most successful Olympic Sport Talent ID Programmes in Great Britain. The Performance Development Academy identifies athletic individuals with no, or little prior rowing experience who have the potential to become Olympic champions and provide them with top-level coaching and support services. The Academy has been incredibly successful, most notably, it has produced Olympian Matt Haywood, Senior GB Rower Kyra Edwards and U23 International Poppy Baker.
The Academy is run by two full-time professional coaches who are responsible for the recruitment and development of athletes. As part of this development, athletes who are involved in the programme attend regular training & testing camps to monitor athletes’ progression. These take place in the UK and overseas.

The programme links in with Nottingham Rowing club to take part in regular training sessions both on land and on the water. These include race pieces and weightlifting sessions in the gym. Though Nottingham RC is based near Trent Bridge on a stretch of the River Trent.
Athletes occasionally use the river but predominantly train on the lake at the National Water Sports Centre, 10 minutes away from the city centre. Ergo and weight sessions take place at Nottingham RC’s world-class training centre.
