Nottingham Rowing Club was formed in 2006, initially as a result of the merger of the Nottingham Boat Club and the Nottingham Britannia Rowing Club, two historic Nottingham clubs that were established in 1894 and 1869 respectively. During the hundred-plus years of the two separate clubs both had various major achievements, but by the beginning of 2006 the votes of both clubs’ memberships supported the committees’ view that the sum of the two clubs would be greater than its parts and the merger process started.
Following the merger on 1st June 2006, the Nottingham Schools Rowing Association (NSRA) merged with the club to become the junior section, and the Nottinghamshire County Rowing Association (NCRA) also merged with the club to form the club’s high performance programme.
Nottingham Rowing Club has two well-equipped boathouses-the Boat Club and the Brit, each with changing and toilet facilities, function rooms and well a stocked bars.
We also have a very active social side too. holding an annual awards ceremony and dinner, as well as other parties, dinners, outings etc so watch out for posters displayed around the club. Lifelong friendships are forged at this all-age, all-ability, rowing club.

Carl Smith tragically died in a car accident on New Years’ Day 2010 aged just 48. He was one of the most successful oarsmen for Great Britain, with an international rowing career spanning between 1980 and 1996, when he retired from international competition and later took up coaching on Trent Side.
This fund has been set up to distribute financial support to young aspiring athletes for the next decade.
The aim of NRC’s Presidents Club is to provide financial support for our international hopefuls (juniors and seniors) when they are trying for selection of have been selected to race at international events.
Our support has helped a number of young athletes on their journey to success.
