Last weekend the Nottingham Rowing Club were sending its top scullers to compete in the Scullers head over the Boat Race course on the Tideway. Unfortunately, the weather forecast caused the organisers to cancel the event on Friday afternoon.

However, over in Newark conditions were mild and calm for the start of winter so their Head Race went ahead as planned. Nottingham Rowing Club fielded a Masters E Coxed four in the first division which finished over 40 seconds ahead of their younger competition which meant that they did not need any handicap adjustment to be declared winners. They actually passed the younger crew that started before them. In the second division the club entered a Mens’ Quadruple scull, Women’s band 1 double scull, two Junior 18 band 2 single scullers and a Women’s Junior 16 single sculler to take on the 3900 metres notoriously bendy course. The Women’s double scull of Tash Johnson and Kate Doleman stormed to a fine victory, as did Finn Albery in the Junior 18 single sculls , closely followed by Stanley. Phoebe came a well placed 3rd in her category. The men’s quadruple scull didn’t have any competition but raced for a time only finishing 7th overall. Newark rowing club once again ran a great race.
