On a wet and windy Saturday, the Nottingham Rowing Club took part in the Worcester Small Boats Head on the River Severn over 4500 metre course starting at the Camp Inn and going downstream to the local rowing club.

In the first division the Mens’ Band 2 coxed four of Steve Bennett, Callum O’Keefe, Will Blackburn, Dan Town, Cox Rasham Khan won their event. Sophie Connolly and Annie Campbell-Orde had no women to race so entered the mens’ open coxless pairs event and won. A very credible performance.

The second division was held in the afternoon and Steve Bennett, not contend with one win, was back with George Blythe, Chris Dove, Ben Farrell in Mens’ Band 1 Coxless fours and duly won that as well and producing the fastest time of the day.

The womens’ coxed four of Layla Wheeldon, Cathy Beaumont, Annie Beaumont, Eve Bradley, Cox Rachel Mathewson won Womens’ Band 2 event.

Kate Parsons won Womens’ open sculls and Toby Buxton won Junior 15 sculls

The single scullers of Liam Payne and James Doleman both finished 2nd in their categories and Robin Kingston-Evans was 3rd behind James.

The Womens’ Coxless four of Lou Towdrow, Cathy Beaumont, Annie Beaumont, Layla Wheeldon raced for a time only and were 2nd fastest women’s crew of the day only beaten by a Junior 18 quadruple scull

Head coach Dez Atkins said “A great day and as the first race of the season some good results to build on for British Championships, Nottingham Autumn Head and the Tideway Fours Head all taking place at the end of the month”
