Nottingham Rowing Club has banned the use of “single use” water bottles. The athletes use them to take water with them when they go out rowing as they need to keep hydrated. Likewise, they also take them into the training centre. Unfortunately, they would then leave them lying around. Tony Lorrimer lost his temper when he cleared the training centre of 20 single use water bottles and banned them. To encourage the ban, he has given, free of charge, to every member who signs a pledge not to use single use bottles again a plastic water bottle as shown. Whilst this may seem illogical the bottle can be used for a number of years and has the member’s name written on it. As Tony said if they leave these lying around he knows who to shoot! The idea has been well received by the membership and hopefully it will encourage them to think twice about other single use plastic items.
