A fantastic weekend of racing at the British National Rowing Championships held at Holme Pierrepont saw Nottingham Rowing Club secure 3 medals.
Matt Haywood and his partner Josh Armstrong entered the Open double sculls. They won the time trial by 8 seconds securing a place in the A/B semi final. They won their heat by 3 seconds but turned on the style in the final with a 6 second lead after the first 500 metres. They extended their lead in the middle of the course but cruised the last 500 metres to take first place by 6 seconds.
Matt and Josh doubled up in the open quadruple sculls bringing home a silver medal. They held Leander off the start but caught a boat stopping crab which put them 4th place. Despite a titanic effort to pass all the other crews Leander managed to hold them off .
The clubs second quadruple scull finished 4th in the C Final setting a new record for club crews only to have it beaten a few minutes later by Agecroft.
Annie Campbell-Orde, Sophie Connolly, Samantha Redgrave and Kate Parsons brought home silver medals and the club plaque in the quadruple sculls. The second women’s quadruple scull finished fifth in the A final meaning both boats were the fastest club crews in the event.
The women’s open double scull of Molly and Amy finished third in the C Final.
The Club finished 6th in the Victor Ludoreum.
