The GB Rowing Start Programme has one aim, to produce Olympic athletes. The Start programme is one of the most successful talent ID programmes in Great Britain for an Olympic sport, funded by the National Lottery. The programme recruits individuals who meet our baseline criteria;
Age: 14-22 years – Height: Women 5’ 10” and Men 6’ 2”
Physical testing: Strength and Power Endurance
Rowing experience is not necessary!
How does this work on a day to day basis in Nottingham? Nottingham RC hosts the Start centre providing facilities for land training and access to the National Water Sports Centre lake. The group trains twice a day, six days per week. The programme is designed to produce individual athletes for the Olympic team therefore; a lot of time is spent in developing skill sets and boat speed in a single. Start athletes are tested once a month on a performance camp to monitor their progression and will also compete at local and national races throughout the year.
