Masters Rowing at NRC
Masters rowing has grown significantly at NRC. Our squad includes many men and women who first learned to row when they were younger and have either kept rowing ever since or returned to rowing later in life after a break.
We also welcome newcomers to rowing after completing our Learn to Row courses.
Most of our masters train for competitive racing, while others prefer recreational rowing.
So there are lots of options available.

Why come and row with us?
Rowing provides excellent all-round physical activity, that is relatively low impact and can be continued into retirement. Our squad ranges in age from 27 upwards, with many masters rowing and racing well into their 60s, 70s and 80s.
Beyond the physical benefits, our masters also enjoy the camaraderie and companionship that helps maintain a our mental wellbeing.
There is nothing better than having a cuppa or beer and a chat after a training session.
The Coaching Team
Our coaching team, led by Helen Bloor along with Mark Cooke and Ian Wain, boasts a wealth of experience and provides regular Training programmes. These contain a mix of water and land-based activities and include technical sessions, weight training and stretching/yoga sessions to help us stay flexible, healthy and injury free and prepare us for racing.
Masters racing
Masters racing, using an age-related handicapping system, can be highly competitive nowadays.
We race regularly at key competitions in the masters racing calendar, including the British Rowing Masters Championships which offers events at different levels as well as for different age groups, Henley Masters Regatta and our own Nottingham Masters event, as well as other national regattas and heads.
Internationally, we race at the World Rowing Masters Regatta, which is extremely popular and lasts for five days.
We are always keen to welcome additional rowers and scullers to our Masters squad, so if you have previously enjoyed rowing and want to take it up again, we’d be delighted to hear from you.
We’re always looking for coxes to join us too.
