A great way to have fun and keep fit:
The Nottingham Rowing Club Junior Squad has been, and continues to be, one of the most successful Junior Squads in the country. We race successfully at all levels of competition and our members win medals throughout the year. We have juniors racing at smaller, locally based events through to high-ranking events such as the Schools’ Head, Women’s Head of the River, Junior Inter-Regional Regatta, National Schools’ Regatta, British Championships, GB trials and many more.
All juniors are coached by qualified coaches who are also DBS checked and hold the emergency first aid certificate. We limit the number of participants in the squad to ensure that juniors receive the support they need to reach their potential.
Space permitting, juniors can join the squad either as beginners through a learn to row course or as experienced scullers.
Junior Learn-to-Row (LTR):
Learn to row courses are for complete beginners and are run during the summer school holidays for boys and girls aged 12-14. If you are interested in booking a place on one of the courses this summer or would like further information please contact the NRC Junior Development Coach, Ashley Hewitt.
NRC Junior Squad
Having completed the LTR course, juniors may be invited to join the NRC Junior Squad. Training days and times are dependent on age and ability. Sessions range from being on the water, on rowing machines (ergos) and learning basic Olympic lifting. It is expected that all juniors will train to scull at a competitive level.
Junior Performance Group:
The Junior performance group is a group for current rowers looking to push themselves, want to compete at the big events and possibly trial for the GB Junior Rowing Team. The squad trains once a day Monday to Friday 4:15-6pm and Saturday morning, in a combination of singles and crew work, and has a full time coach. Training is a combination of water, ergo and land work and we compete at all the local and major events, from the Head of the Trent to National Schools, Henley Women’s and Henley Royal Regatta.
