Nottingham Rowing Club was founded in 2006 by the merger of two of Nottingham’s historic rowing clubs, Nottingham Boat Club (est. 1894) and Nottingham Britannia Rowing Club (est. 1869). We’re situated on the River Trent adjacent to the City Ground, home of Nottingham Forest Football Club.
With more than 8 km of rowable water and very little motorised river traffic the Trent is one of the finest rowing rivers in the country – the stretch of river upstream of Trent Bridge is classed as non-navigable to motor boats, although it is very much usable for rowers and other water users. Additionally, we are ideally situated to make use of the multi-lane course at the National Watersports Centre, which is accessible to us by river.
We are a large club that includes several adult groups, including Seniors, Masters and Recreational. In addition, the club hosts a British Rowing Performance Development Academy that has produced several World Champions and Olympic medallists.
If you’re thinking of joining us we invite you to browse the website and contact us if you have any questions.
The Club’s buildings
Nottingham Rowing Club has three premises on Trentside:
- The Boat Club is our base, housing a bar and function room, changing facilities, as well as accommodating part of our fleet.
- The Sims gym (on the other side of the City Ground) is our training centre, as well as housing some more of our fleet. It was originally a boatbuilder’s, premises before being acquired by the club in 2016.
- The Britannia building houses yet more of our fleet, as well as being the base for Nottingham Anaconda Dragon Boat Club.
